WELCOME  to  THE CHARLTONS

Charlton Mackrell and Charlton Adam in Somerset, England

The name of the combined civil parish has recently been changed to 'The Charltons' instead of just 'Charlton Mackrell', which for over a century also included the former civil parish of Charlton Adam - and the name on some signposts has long been shown as "The Charltons".  Until 1st October 2011, Charlton Mackrell and Charlton Adam remained separate ecclesiastical parishes (although long a combined benefice) but the combined ecclesiastical parish is also named simply "The Charltons".

The villages have also been known as West Charlton and East Charlton and the parish includes the outlying hamlets of Welham (beyond West Charlton), Lytes Cary and Cooks Cary, and Cary Fitzpaine (east of the A37 Fosse Way).

Over the centuries, many men and women from The Charltons have emigrated to all corners of the globe, but perhaps The Charltons are best-known as an ancestral home of several US Presidents and other notable Americans.

This website has moved to a new home, and will not be updated until it is relaunched.  General information about the parish can be found at  www.thecharltons.org.uk
