THE FIRST WORLD WAR
On Village Day 2014 we staged an exhibition inside the Community Hall, using IWM resources combined with local archives and research.
There are 23 First World War names on our parish war memorial and some others also associated with the villages. The Charltons Historical Society intend to commemorate them all in a variety of ways during the forthcoming centenary years. These will include articles in 'Village News' and on our public Facebook page.

Two of the many Charlton Mackrell men who emigrated to Australia in the 1800s were Charles and Joseph SUMMERS. The HOCKEY and GRINHAM/GREENHAM families also have emigrant descendants in Australia.
